Like, oh my gawd!

No prices have ben announced yet, although it appears that members of the trio’s fan club, will get first crack at buying tickets. Starting May 11, fans will be able to access a “Camp Rock” themed premium iTouch and iPhone app, which will also be optimized for the iPad, to give them a head start in buying concert tickets starting on May 15.

The tour is being sponsored by OfficeMax and is timed to coincide with the release of the Disney Channel original movie, “Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam,” which — surprise! — just happens to co-star Nick, Kevin and Joe Jonas, along with Lovato.

Don’t worry guys… not going to this. But you are. I know it. Weirdo.

Crazy Old Man Attacks Cops and Gets Killed

Knives are dangerous...

Haven’t done a crazy old man story for a while. Here you go. You’re welcome.

Via Silicon Valley Mercury News:

San Diego police have shot and killed a man they say came at officers with a kitchen knife.

The 56-year-old man died at a hospital Monday morning, less than an hour after he was shot. His name wasn’t immediately released.

Lt. Kevin Rooney says two officers were called to a home to evaluate the mental health of a man who lived there with his mother.

Rooney says the officers saw the man in the kitchen and ordered him out.

Rooney says the man came into the living room with a knife, refused commands to put it down and told the officers that they would have to kill him.

Rooney says the man advanced on the officers with the knife in his hands and an officer shot him.

I’m not always on the side of the cops, but this dude sounded like he wanted to die.

Carnival Starts New Cruises to the Mexican Riviera from San Diego

I might have to hit one of these new cruises up. Sounds like a whole bunch of fun.

Via USA Today Cruise Log:

Industry giant Carnival is making a big change to its Mexican Riviera cruises out of San Diego for the coming winter.

The line today announced the 2,124-passenger Carnival Spirit, which operates seasonally out of San Diego, will switch from eight-night Mexican Riviera voyages out of the city to alternating five- and nine-night voyages.

Carnival says the five-night voyages, notably, will include a single, two-day stop in Cabo San Lucas. The nine-night voyages also will have a two-day call in Cabo San Lucas as well as day stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and La Paz — the first time the latter has been featured as a regular stop on a Carnival itinerary.

Carnival says the two-day visits to Cabo San Lucas are being added based on feedback from passengers who have been wanting more time in the destination.

The nine-night cruises will depart on Fridays and return on Sundays. The five-night cruises will sail Sundays through Fridays.

The Carnival Spirit will offer the new itineraries from Dec. 10, 2010 to April 1, 2011. The ship then will go ahead with a previously announced schedule of 12-night Hawaii cruises (April 10 and 22, 2011) and a full season of seven-night Alaska cruises departing from Seattle (beginning May 10, 2011).

Carnival says passengers who already have booked the Spirit’s previously announced schedule of eight-night Mexican Riviera cruises for the coming winter can switch to the new nine-day Mexican Riviera cruise at the same fare, re-book an alternate Carnival sailing and receive a $50 per person on-board credit; or cancel and receive a full refund.

Carnival’s announcement comes just four days after rival Royal Caribbean announced it would be pulling its only ship sailing to the Mexican Riviera — the 3,114-passenger Mariner of the Seas — out of the region in January.

Carnival, too, has been reducing capacity in the region. As previously announced, another Carnival ship that has been based in San Diego, the 2,052-passenger Carnival Elation, is leaving the city later this month.

Carnival also has two ships based year-round in the Los Angeles area: The 2,052-passenger Carnival Paradise and the 3,006-passenger Carnival Splendor.

Yeah… definitely going. Now I just need to find a pretty lady to take along for the ride…

San Diego Rally Against the Arizona Immigration Law

You suck!

How did I miss this?? I’ll have to go to the next one. There was this protest against racist Arizona and I had the day off. I really need to monitor Twitter more. Bah.

Via Examiner Phoenix:

About 40 people gathered at a rally in downtown San Diego voicing their dissenting view on the tough new Arizona illegal immigration issue signed into law on Friday.

Police on the scene commented that there were more media trucks and law enforcement at the “Boycott Arizona” evening rally than actual rally supporters. One of the officers on duty said, “Media must have been hoping there would be a large number of protesters like we had during the 2006 failed amnesty push.”

Approximately seven media trucks, seven police cars and SUVs, two fire trucks and one ambulance lined the street in front on the federal building along Front Street. There were no reports of any arrests and protesters were able to get their message out with only one counter-protester on the sidelines.

Rally attendees listened to speakers in English and Spanish talk about how racist Arizona’s new law is and the need to show support for the immigrant population throughout the country.

Many signs and Mexican flags sprinkled the crowd and the lone American flag captured the attention of passerby’s as there were many more Mexican flags waving in the air. Folks leaving the building after a long day at work didn’t appreciate the blatant disrespect for the American flag. “Why not support Americans?” asked John Leary of San Diego.

As far as the supporters point of view the rally was a chance to support the Latinos in the country, legally or illegally.

“I support Hispanic immigrants around the country and in Arizona. Because laws in other states affect us we need to make sure illegal immigrants liberties are not violated. I believe this new law infringes on the 4th Amendment and will lead to racial profiling,” said Leo Carrillo of San Diego. “This isn’t my first rally I have been to before and it’s important to let people know I support them.”

While there was only one counter-protester on the sidewalk, many people in cars driving by shouted “No amnesty, go home,” and there were cars that simply honked in support of illegal immigrants.

One thing is clear – this debate is not over.

I will never go to Arizona. Ever.

The Arizona Illegal Immigration Bill is Bullshit!

Fuck you, Arizona!

Hey illegal immigrants… ditch that racist Arizona shithole and come chill in tolerant and respectful San Diego! We’re living in the present… not 50 years ago.

Gov. Jan Brewer ignored criticism from President Barack Obama on Friday and signed into law a bill supporters said would take handcuffs off police in dealing with illegal immigration in Arizona, the nation’s gateway for human and drug smuggling.

With hundreds of protesters outside the state Capitol shouting that the bill would lead to civil rights abuses, Brewer said critics were “overreacting” and that she wouldn’t tolerate racial profiling.

“We in Arizona have been more than patient waiting for Washington to act,” Brewer said after signing the law. “But decades of inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation.”

Earlier Friday, Obama called the Arizona bill “misguided” and instructed the Justice Department to examine it to see if it’s legal. He also said the federal government must enact immigration reform at the national level – or leave the door open to “irresponsibility by others.”

“That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe,” Obama said.

The legislation, sent to the Republican governor by the GOP-led Legislature, makes it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It also requires local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants, allows lawsuits against government agencies that hinder enforcement of immigration laws, and make it illegal to hire illegal immigrants for day labor or knowingly transport them.

The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund said it plans a legal challenge to the law, arguing it “launches Arizona into a spiral of pervasive fear, community distrust, increased crime and costly litigation, with nationwide repercussions.”

Brewer ordered the state’s law enforcement licensing agency to develop a training course on how to implement the law while respecting civil rights.

The bill will take effect in late July or early August.

Padres Beat The Giants Because They Rock!

Hell yeah!

This is a great article about how ridiculously awesome the Padres are and how pathetic and crappy the Giants are. Bam!

Via Andrew Baggarly at San Jose Mercury News:

The Giants were not built to bludgeon opponents. There will be nights this season when a quality pitcher will make roadkill out of them.

Throw in struggling No. 5 starter Todd Wellemeyer and some of manager Bruce Bochy’s oft-lamented buzzard’s luck Wednesday afternoon, and it was practically impossible for the Giants to peel themselves off the asphalt.

Their 5-2 loss to Jon Garland and the Padres finished off a three-game sweep at Petco Park and a road trip in which they were flattened while losing five of six.

It wasn’t their day or their week. Now they have to prove it still could be their season. They’ll play host to the Cardinals, Phillies and Rockies — three of last year’s four NL playoff teams — on a nine-game homestand that begins Friday.

“We’ve been through this before,” Bochy said. “We have to show this is a tough and resilient club. This is not something we thought we’d go through. But we are, and we have to handle it.”

The Giants ceded first place to the Padres in the NL West, and the Giants’ chest-pounding confidence is gone after a roaring start.

The Geezer Bandit Has Hit His Seventh Bank!

geezer bandit in san diego california

Prune juice!

Oh my gosh! He’s at it again! This is one crazy old dude.

Via The Los Angeles Times Local Blog:

The San Diego County bank robber dubbed “the Geezer Bandit” by the FBI has struck again.

He is suspected of robbing the California Bank and Trust on Tuesday in suburban Vista — his seventh bank job since late August.

His age, estimated to be between 60 and 70 years, has given rise to the FBI nickname. He often wears headgear.

On Tuesday, he appeared to wear a Padres cap. He waited patiently in line and then flashed a revolver at the teller and demanded money, the FBI said.

Three banks have offered rewards totaling $16,000 for his arrest. Tipsters can call the FBI at (858) 565-1255 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
