The Geezer Bandit is Out of Control!!!

I still cannot believe how long this crazy and dangerous man has been at large! Come on cops… you can do it! I believe in you! Catch this man and put him behind bars NOW.

geezer-bandit Via ABC News:

The FBI and police in California are searching for the "geezer bandit," an apparently grey-haired elderly man who has committed armed robberies at 12 banks, the latest on Friday in Bakersfield.

The elderly persona — whether real or donned for the robberies — may be one reason why the bandit has been so successful. "People may think that because of his overall appearance he may not be as threatening," said FBI special agent Darrell Foxworth in San Diego. "But you have to keep in mind that he’s an armed bank robber. And he has threatened tellers with the use of that gun — we have photos where he is actually pointing a gun at a teller."

Foxworth said "witnesses described him as wearing a Halloween-like old man mask. Whether he’s actually an elderly man or someone wearing some type of disguise is something we’re considering as part of the investigation. We have not limited ourselves in any way."

The first 11 robberies in San Diego and Riverside counties share characteristics with Friday’s heist in the town of Bakersfield, according to the FBI. In the first 11 episodes, which took place from August 2009 through June 2010, the robber showed a demand note, asked for cash, pointed a revolver at tellers, and threatened them with a gun if they did not comply.

Man Stabs Wife and Child with Scissors!

scissors What the heck is wrong the world today? This kind of stuff seems to be happening more and more often and it pisses me off. What is responsible for this? Our media? I don’t know, but it needs to stop.

Via San Diego Mercury News:

Police say an enraged San Diego man has been arrested for plunging scissors into the chest of his wife and cutting his 7-year-old son.

Officer Dino Delimitros says the 40-year-old man’s wife called 911 just before 1 a.m. Monday to report she had just been stabbed.

The man, whose name hasn’t been released, barricaded himself in the home but surrendered and was arrested when police threatened to send in police dogs.

The woman and her son were taken to a hospital and they are expected to survive.

The woman has two puncture wounds and the boy has a cut hand.

Sledgehammer-Wielding Man Shot By Police

sledgehammer I bet a lot of people can relate to this poor guy. The crappy economy really has a lot of people down and out and I bet many people would like to take a sledghammer and destroy a few things to vent.

Via Mercury News:

San Diego police have shot and wounded a man they say appeared distraught over financial problems and threw a sledgehammer at officers.

A man in his 40s was shot in the chest and leg on Sunday at his home in the Encanto area but Capt. Jim Collins says his wounds aren’t life-threatening. His name wasn’t released.

Collins says the man’s wife reported that he’d had trouble sleeping and woke her up Sunday morning to say the couple and their two young children were losing everything.

Collins says the man got a sledgehammer smashed the windows of a tow truck and two other cars in the driveway.

Collins says the man also had several knives. He says arriving officers confronted the man and fired when he threw the hammer and a knife at them.

Floatopia in San Diego Might Be Killed!

san diego floatopia drinking ban This agression will not stand! Hell no! I can’t believe they are possibly going to ban offshore drinking and effectively kill the wonderful gathering of drunks known as Floatopia! Well… actually I can. The city council is full of idiots.

Via Associated Press:

San Diego’s City Council may let the air out of so-called "floatopia" parties where people booze it up on inner tubes offshore.

The council meets this afternoon to consider closing a loophole in the city’s ban on the beach use of alcohol.

Officials say people have been skirting the law by gathering by the thousands to party in Mission Bay on surfboards, inner tubes and other flotation devices.

Authorities say partygoers have left trash in the water and lifeguards have had to make dozens of rescuers.

The City Council will consider banning alcohol use offshore except for people on boats.

Oh Noes! It’s the Skateboard Bandit!

san-diego-skateboard-bandit Damn street thugs! First, the geezer bandit, then the floppy hat bandit, now… this punk. This guy actually sounds dangerous though. What is happening to our city?

Via Tony Perry at Los Angeles Times:

First it was the aging Geezer Bandit (still at large). Then the Floppy Hat Bandit (a female suspect now in custody).

And now, a skateboard bandit — San Diego’s string of idiosyncratic bank heists continues.

The latest is the fellow who flashed a gun Monday at a Comerica Bank teller, stuffed the money in his backpack and left with his skateboard.

His face was covered by a green paisley-colored bandanna. His beanie, sweatshirt, gloves and pants were black. So, too, was his semiautomatic pistol.

San Diego police and the FBI are asking for the public’s help in tracking him down.

Port of San Diego Fires Corrput Lobbyist

port-of-san-diego It’s good to see the local government actually taking action against these crooked employees.

Via Tony Barboza at The Los Angeles Times:

The head of the port agency said Susan McCabe, who was trying to secure the vote of Coastal Commission members for a development project on the city’s waterfront, is being replaced.

A lobbyist who boasted in e-mails about "spoon feeding" a California coastal commissioner while attempting to secure his vote on a controversial project has been fired by the Port of San Diego.

In a letter to Coastal Commission members Friday, Robert "Dukie" Valderrama, chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners, wrote that he was "appalled" by what the port’s hired lobbyist, Susan McCabe, said in her e-mails. He said she was no longer under contract and was being replaced.

"In her zeal to be a winning advocate, she acted in poor taste, something that the Port of San Diego does not condone," Valderrama wrote. "For that, we are deeply sorry."

The apology was made after The Times reported on e-mails between McCabe and port officials detailing efforts to convince Commissioner Patrick Kruer to vote in favor of the multimillion-dollar project to revamp the downtown San Diego waterfront, a proposal ultimately rejected by the divided panel.

Flooded Fishing Boat Passengers Rescued

boat-sinking Yikes. It’s like a mini Titanic. Bowling ball sized hole in the hull caused the whole thing to go down. I’m glad everyone is okay.

Via The Associated Press:

Police and U.S. Coast Guard officers rescued 26 people Friday from a charter fishing boat that was flooding after damaging its hull in Mexican waters south of San Diego, authorities said.

A mayday call was received at 1:20 a.m. from the 62-foot Sea Adventure II, which was taking on water near South Coronado Island some 15 miles south of San Diego, and a helicopter and search boat were launched, Coast Guard Petty Officer Henry Dunphy said in a statement.

San Diego Harbor police and the Coast Guard rescued 22 of the people on board, and four crew members helped the Coast Guard use pumps to keep the vessel afloat until it reached port, Dunphy said.

Phil Lobred, owner of H and M Landing where the boat docked, said the vessel hit a rock that left a bowling ball-size hole in the hull.

The Coast Guard was investigating the circumstances of the incident, Dunphy said. Field sobriety tests on the crew came back negative and drug tests were pending, he said.

Investigators were interviewing crew members and examining the boat’s damage, Dunphy said.

Mexican authorities were notified of the incident, he said.

Calls to Sea Adventure 80 Sportfishing Co., which operates the boat, were not immediately returned.
