Sledgehammer-Wielding Man Shot By Police

sledgehammer I bet a lot of people can relate to this poor guy. The crappy economy really has a lot of people down and out and I bet many people would like to take a sledghammer and destroy a few things to vent.

San Diego police have shot and wounded a man they say appeared distraught over financial problems and threw a sledgehammer at officers.

A man in his 40s was shot in the chest and leg on Sunday at his home in the Encanto area but Capt. Jim Collins says his wounds aren’t life-threatening. His name wasn’t released.

Collins says the man’s wife reported that he’d had trouble sleeping and woke her up Sunday morning to say the couple and their two young children were losing everything.

Collins says the man got a sledgehammer smashed the windows of a tow truck and two other cars in the driveway.

Collins says the man also had several knives. He says arriving officers confronted the man and fired when he threw the hammer and a knife at them.

LA Immigration March Was A Huge Success

Sí se puede!!!

Work wouldn’t let me have the day off, but I really wanted to go! I’m so glad that so many people showed up to support those who don’t have a voice. Yay!

Via KFMB Channel 8:

Tens of thousands of demonstrators galvanized by opposition to Arizona’s tough law marched through the streets of downtown Los Angeles to demand an overhaul of immigration laws, some holding signs calling for a boycott of the Grand Canyon State.

Singer Gloria Estefan kicked off the march by climbing on a flatbed truck to say that illegal immigrants should not be considered criminals. She said the United States was a nation of immigrants.

“We’re honest people, we’re good people,” the Cuban-born singer said. “We’ve given a lot to this country. This country has given a lot to us.”

Cardinal Roger Mahony stood on the truck and joined the crowd in chanting, “Si, se puede,” or “Yes, we can,” in Spanish. Streets and sidewalks were packed with tens of thousands of people as horns blared.

The march ended nearly five hours later after a steady stream of politicians and labor leaders stepped on stage on a perfect spring afternoon to denounce the Arizona law and insist that President Barack Obama tackle immigration reform.

“We say no to Arizona, no to racism, no to hate,” said Janice Hahn, a Los Angeles city councilwoman and Democratic candidate for California lieutenant governor.

Police officials estimated about 50,000 demonstrators took to the streets at the rally’s peak in the early afternoon.

Crazy Old Man Attacks Cops and Gets Killed

Knives are dangerous...

Haven’t done a crazy old man story for a while. Here you go. You’re welcome.

Via Silicon Valley Mercury News:

San Diego police have shot and killed a man they say came at officers with a kitchen knife.

The 56-year-old man died at a hospital Monday morning, less than an hour after he was shot. His name wasn’t immediately released.

Lt. Kevin Rooney says two officers were called to a home to evaluate the mental health of a man who lived there with his mother.

Rooney says the officers saw the man in the kitchen and ordered him out.

Rooney says the man came into the living room with a knife, refused commands to put it down and told the officers that they would have to kill him.

Rooney says the man advanced on the officers with the knife in his hands and an officer shot him.

I’m not always on the side of the cops, but this dude sounded like he wanted to die.
